Title: Three Categories Essential for a Meaningful Life
These three categories are vitally important to understanding life. What are they? Keep reading. Humans often spend most of our time studying and meditating on the third category—the real world. However, without seeking to understand God’s wills and causes that manifest in the real world, we miss the opportunity to understand ourselves and the God who gives us life. In this month’s article, I aim to guide you through all three categories.
In the coming months, I’ll take time to define each of these terms. For now, I simply want to introduce you to them. I'll start with a brief illustration to help you grasp the complex concept of God’s wills and causes, and humanity’s involvement in them.
Think of a microscope. It has various parts, such as magnifying lenses, lights, and focus controls. By understanding how these parts work together, we gain a clearer view through it. The Bible is like a microscope: it has many parts, and as we understand how they work together, we begin to perceive God more deeply and clearly. Do we need to understand every part to use a microscope? Not necessarily. However, if we want to use it to its full potential, we must know how all its components function together.
When we take the time to understand the different parts of the Bible and its theology, we can appreciate, understand, and be more grateful for God’s revelation. This understanding also enables us to better explain the Bible to an unbelieving world. Nonbelievers often bring complaints against God, such as the problem of evil, but understanding these concepts can help us respond meaningfully.
I'll leave you this month on a bit of a cliffhanger. As you get ready to peek at the three categories. Get ready to dive into God’s Word with me so that you can better use God’s truth as a tool and become a more effective witness to your unbelieving friends and family. Here are the three categories you will study with me.
God’s Wills
1. Decretive
2. Preceptive
3. Dispositional
God’s Causes that Bring About His Wills
1. Necessary
2. Free Voluntary (Self-Will)
a. God
b. Man
3. Contingent
The Real World
Man
2. Creation
Until next month, go out, share, and proclaim the Gospel because the truth worth sharing is the truth that transforms.
