Russell Brand And Jordon Peterson Dabbling In Christianity

I hope your May is going well and that you are growing in the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ.

This month, I decided to look at Russell Brand's recent change. He was once a Hollywood actor and TV star who indulged in all the hedonistic desires of sex, drugs, and rock and roll. From there, he became an icon of the new age, focusing on self-enlightenment and being one with the universe.

Recently, he has befriended Jordan Peterson, who has had several life-altering situations. These range from his wife's near death from cancer to being bullied by the Canadian government to bow to the gender-affirming ideology, which is sweeping the academic landscape in North America.

However, he has chosen not to bow to the pressure of the culture. He also wrote Twelve Rules For Life, which sold millions of copies.

Jordan has been reading the scriptures and encountering the person of Christ, and his life is beginning to unfold toward the truth. In Jordan’s conversation with Russell Brand, Russell also began to see the importance of the narrative of Christ and the Old Testament stories.

But, I still think Jordon and Russell are very story-centric and do not trust in the importance of what is revealed in the Bible in the form of Salvation.

Nevertheless, both these individuals are beginning to explore the claims of Christ, and Russell was recently baptized. This does not mean either he or Jordan are genuinely converted; however, at minimum, there is a shift in their lives and others in society right now because of how absurd culture is in the present day. Any who have read or listened to any of my articles in the past knows the warning the Bibles gives about this. Listen or read these two articles below:

A Schizophrenic Belief June 2022

I have strived to communicate what God has revealed to us in His special revelation found in the Bible. The Bible warns and corrects our beliefs to bring salvific and common earthly wisdom. I suggest the Bible shares:

God is the origin of everything we are and engage with, and the creatures will glorify Him through mercy or justice. I have argued that unless someone starts with the God of the Bible, they have no foundation to make sense of anything.

Some, like Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand, are beginning to grapple with the reality of what is found in the Bible.

I want to briefly comment Biblically on four statements Russell Brand made during his interview with Jordan Peterson:

Rusell states, “Christ has always been here.”

Indeed, Russell, He has, good sir!

And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. (Genesis 1:26-28)

We see that all of humanity comes from God's creative handy work. We see that the Triune God has always been there. So, Russell is right when he makes the above statement. Christ is the towering figure that hovers over all humanity.

This is highly intuitive for the Christian and the unbeliever alike, but the unbeliever is still trying to suppress this in a futile attempt to hold on to their worldview that is on life support.

Paul states, For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men, who by their unrighteousness suppress the truth. For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. (Romans 1:18-19)

Humans, in their unrighteousness, suppress the truth to justify themselves continually. However, when people start their journey of God humbling them, they stop suppressing and admit apparent truths. Not only has God always been there, but He is not silent.

Russell States, “Value or morality from a material culture is insufficient.”

This is so obvious to someone who wants to be logically honest. We are morally bankrupt apart from the one true living God. A culture consumed by materialism will never be satisfied with the sin they are currently indulging in.

Example: Sex outside of marriage is not enough. I want the same sex. That is not enough; I want to mutilate myself to be like the opposite sex that God naturally made me. That is not enough. I want children now. I am not saying it unfolds in every person's life this way, but all sins have a downward spiral effect that takes a person further away from the image of God. You could take this example and insert money, greed, lying, fame, drugs, power, etc.

When Jesus reveals this, we become content with knowing and enjoying Him as the true source of meaning and purpose in our lives. When we begin to understand the one true living God, value takes on a proper meaning.

Russell would go on to say that this culture is damned and doomed. I could not agree with him more here within this context. Hedonism (self-pleasure is king) and existentialism (live for current experiences since this is all you have) are the wells that have already run dry, but people are too consumed by them to realize they are perched and dying of thirst.

Russell states, “The person and presence of Christ have become unavoidable.”

This is true: He created us with the Father and the Spirit. He is our Creator, Savior, and Judge. He is unavoidable. From the beginning, His image and handiwork have been all over our lives.

The creation points us toward Him, and the Bible personally introduces us to Him. Russell is right; Jesus Christ is entirely unavoidable.

Paul states,  “For from him and through him and to him are all things. To him be glory forever. Amen.”  (Romans 11:36)

This text sums up what I stated in the beginning: God is the origin of everything we are and engage with, and the creatures will glorify Him through mercy or justice. Mercy received by repentance and saving faith or Justice received in hell for the guilt payment of your sins against the highest good—God.

I hope Jordan Peterson and Russell Brand repent and come to true saving faith in Christ. I pray they move past the Bible's stories and statements to see that these statements and stories were based on real people who lived and a real Jesus who was crucified, buried, and resurrected for all who believe in Him.

At a minimum, it seems they are on the right path home. May the Father continue drawing His home.
