Sharing with Mormons

With any other religion, we have to remember that the matter that is at stake is truth. Rebellion still runs like an engine in the heart of every person because of the fall of our father, Adam. Exodus 20:3-4 “You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourself an idol or any likeness of what is in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the water under the earth.” We are called to shine biblical truth in the person's view of reality. This is accomplished by starting the conversation with a series of questions. Whenever you start with a question, you force the person to speak on what they believe to be truth claims. We must explain the truth of scripture and compare what Joseph Smith said and did to those same scriptures. There are some sticky spots in Mormonism. I hope this writing will be a help both Christians and Mormons.
Before we look at the sticky spots, let's refocus upon the bases of what we filter all supposed religious truth through- the Bible. Our standard religious cults will come and go, but God's word stands forever. We must remember we are servants to these people to bring the truth of scripture.
Here are some errors that have to be addressed
Joseph Smith used a looking glass “today we call it a crystal ball” to get directions on where to dig for buried treasure.
Dr. John A Clark states, “ Long before the idea of the golden Bible entered their minds, in their excursions for money digging … Joe used to be their guide, putting into a hat a peculiar stone he had, through which he looks to decide where they should begin to dig. (Gleanings by the way, by J.A.Clark (Philadelphia: W.J. and J.K. Simon, 1842), 225)[i]
Bibles answer to this – Deuteronomy 13:1-3
Here are a series of questions that Mormons must deal with.
Could you explain the Gospel to me? Listen to what they say; if they give a distorted view of Christ and work-based salvation, take them to Galatians 1: 8. Remember, you are going to need the KJV version of the Bible.
Do you know the book of Mormon plagiarizes the KJV of the Bible? Compare Book of Mormon Moroni 10 to 1 Corinthians 12:1-11 also compare Nephi 14 to Isaiah 4.
Do you know that the book of Mormon is not accurate to Jewish history or world history?
Ether 2:23 and Ether 2:26 Speaks of glass before it was ever invented.
When the Jewish people moved to the west, according to the book of Mormon, they claimed to bring glass, steel, wheat, barley, elephants, camels, horses, donkeys, chickens, pigs. Yet, none of these products and animals could be found historically until 1492.
The two ancient people groups, Lamanites and Nephites, of the book of Mormon cannot be found; there is no trace of these people groups in archeology, according to the Columbia University history department.
Do you know the book of Mormon denies original sin? Moroni 8:8
What are all the books that Mormons consider scared?
Pearl of great price
Doctrine of covenants
Book of Mormon
KJV of the Holy Bible
Do you know out of the Mormon's sacred writings, there are contradictions?
3 Nephi 12:2 Moroni 8:11 vs. Doctrine of covenants 20:37
These are just some of the questions raised from the Mormon belief. With these questions, you can try to destroy them with logic, but I would not advise this. I have made this mistake in the past. Read 2 Timothy 2: 24-25. Be patient and pray. Give the truth in small chunks. Be vigilant and constant to have these truth conversations. This is a ministry of teaching. Most traditional Mormons will be ready to reject these claims because they naturally want to continue believing what they were taught. You have the power of the Holy Spirit on your side and the truth of Jesus’ word with you. Be consistent in exposing them to reality; we pray that they accept the faithful Jesus of scripture. I would suggest an overview of all significant cults pick up the kingdom of the cults by Walter Martin
