Meet Our New Leader-Andrew Davis
Apr 27, 2021 | Written by Andrew Davis
Greetings to all! My name is Andrew Davis, and I am a native to Wake Forest, NC. After moving around a little, I landed in “The Forest” and attended elementary through high school in the Wake Forest public schools. The Spirit granted me repentance and faith by the Gospel of Christ at a very young age. Growing up with this child-like faith, I had a deep love for Jesus and wanted to honor him with my life. Playing basketball since I was little exposed me to a lot of different experiences culturally, and Christ bolstered my faith amid my time. Eventually, the Lord opened the door for me to play college basketball, which led me to get a B.A. degree in Mass Communications at Emory & Henry College. Soon, the Lord would call me to preach the Word my senior year of college, thus directing me to Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary, where I currently attend as I seek to acquire my MDiv in Preaching and Pastoral Ministry.
It wouldn’t take long during my time at Southeastern for the Lord to place a desire in my heart to preach open-air. I remember the Spirit convicting me of my inaction when it came to the evil of abortion. After hearing a compelling sermon on this issue, I was moved to seek out ministries who were involved in stopping abortion immediately. I knew of Apologia Studios in Tempe, AZ, and how they handled confronting abortion with the Gospel, but I was unaware of that kind of ministry in the RDU area. I remember Google searching “open-air ministries,” and by God’s providence, the Gospel of God ministries came up. After connecting with Tommy, I went through his course on open-air preaching and was compelled to join in on the ministry efforts. God placed the likes of George Whitefield and Samuel Davies (Great Awakening preachers) in my path, and these men (though deceased) have pushed me to commit to preaching the Word so that those in the highways and hedges might be compelled to enter into the great banquet feast of our King Jesus.
I have been sporadic in my preaching locations. Last semester, my schedule allowed me to go to the abortion clinic in Raleigh on Thursday mornings. I also go stoplight preaching in Wake Forest and Youngsville. My set location is Youngsville, NC, on Sunday afternoons on the street corner of Capital Boulevard where the CVS Pharmacy is, but I aim to get into a consistent rhythm at the Raleigh clinic and downtown Raleigh once again.
Please pray that I might have boldness and that I would learn to balance my schedule. I have many responsibilities with full-time school, work, and serving as a leader in my local church, so I want to excel in the work of this ministry as the Lord permits. Pray for wisdom that I might be able to give a reasonable defense for the hope that I have, setting apart Christ as Lord in my heart and my apologetic. Pray for the Spirit’s power to be upon me in my personal disciplines, evangelism, and love for God and neighbor.
