Mardi Gras – In Wake Forest, NC

Feb 19, 2018 | Written by Peter Firth

Thousands of people arrived in downtown Wake Forest Saturday to celebrate the tradition of Mardi Gras.  The Gospel of Christ was preached and tracts were handed out to hundreds.  We pray that the Word of God that was heard by many will have its effect on those whom God is calling out of darkness into His marvelous light.  We continue to pray for more fruit in the ministry and for boldness to proclaim our risen Lord Jesus Christ

The rainy weather didn’t stop the party goers from their revelry and proclaiming ancient rites and rituals of which few of them know anything about and even much less have a care about.  It’s all about the party, the beads, the glitter, and the pursuit of a good time.  Truthfully this celebration has its roots to thousands of years ago in pagan spring and fertility rites.  This popular cultural party time is also known now as a Christian holiday (History.com) mainly associated with Roman Catholicism.

The ancient church had to deal with mysticism in their day and the situation hasn’t changed even now in our modern day. Satan’s little book of tricks are just as effective in deceiving people today as he was with Eve.  Followers of pantheism, Gnosticism, and other demonic inspired belief systems were rampant in the early days of the church.  Paul confronted strongly those who were preaching or believing in a different gospel.  His epistles are full of warnings to those who would be deceived into believing another gospel, which is no gospel at all (Gal 1:6-7).

Over the years heresies have slowly crept in to the church.  The fact that there can be open celebrations such as this that glorify demonic activity blatantly shows how much the church has stood back and let the enemy of God influence and deceive His people.  I could hear Paul’s epistle (if there could be one) to the United Sates beginning something like this; “I am astonished that you are so quickly deserting him who called you in the grace of Christ and are turning to a different gospel—“  [Gal 1:6 ESV]  Let us not be those foolish Galatians and let us not stand back while evil goes about spreading more lies and deceptions.
