Caleb The Jehovah Witness

My family and I were packing for a week-long trip up the East Coast. In between packing and toting suitcases to the car, we saw some well-dressed people knocking on our neighbors’ door. I did not think much of it because of my busyness. My daughters picked up on it and said that they looked like Jehovah's Witnesses. I continued packing the car. Within twenty minutes I had a 14-year-old boy standing at my front door sporting a bright red bow tie. Here is his story.

Caleb was a very respectful young man. I offered him a drink of water and he gulped it down quickly. He did not say which church he was from. However, he did give me a small brochure about the upcoming conference that was happening in Raleigh, NC. The pitch for the conference was to answer some real monumental questions; the meaning to life, what to expect during the end times and much more. I graciously handed the brochure back to Caleb. Why did I hand the brochure back to Caleb? I asked Caleb what church he attended. He said he attended the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses. When witnesses leave their local Kingdom Hall they have to keep up with how many brochures they give away. If they don’t give away a certain amount they can be, if they continue in their lack of proselytizing, excommunicated from their local fellowship. I don’t want to contribute to their good standings with the watchtower cult, so I don’t take their literature.

I asked Caleb one question, “What is the Gospel?” He replied, “The Gospel is Jesus Christ is Lord and Savior and that he will reign for a thousand years and Satan will be thrown into the abyss.” I had him repeat this to me again. Well, the second time Jesus Christ being Lord was left out. Caleb stated, “ We would rein with Jesus for a thousand years and that Satan would be thrown into the abyss.” I explained this back to him and asked if this was the Gospel. He assured me this was the Gospel. I asked one more time and he gave me the same answer.

Eschatology (study of end times) is not the same as the Gospel. This simple question, what is the Gospel, sent Caleb to the most important thing to the Watchtower organization. (Watchtower is one of the many names of Jehovah Witnesses.) End times! They play on peoples emotions with world events to lure them into the Watchtower cult. They assure them of peace and future security if they too become a Jehovah's Witness. Beware!

I explained the true Gospel to Caleb. That Jesus came to take the sins that we all have committed against his holiness. Lying stealing, etc… Jesus absorbed the just wrath of God on that cross. He was buried and raised on the third day and now waits for the day that he is coming to judge the living and the dead. All who repent, place their faith in Jesus, and bear fruit in keeping with repentance can be assured of their salvation. He listened intently and respectfully. I took him to Galatians 1:8. I showed him how he preached another gospel than the Gospel found in the bible. This verse says let those people be accursed. I shared my concerns for him and his family and gave him a Gospel tract and my personal card. And he left my home.

When is the last time you shared your faith in Jesus? Jehovah's Witnesses are so dedicated to a lie and a false gospel. What are you doing with the authentic Gospel found in the Bible? Go out and transform a life today by proclaiming this authentic Gospel!!
